Nowadays this “Erzgebirge” woodcraft is one of the main production
article of the region and a mayor promoting factor in tourism. During
wintertime the rough climate insures a white Christmas. The whole
landscape then is illuminated by thousands of traditional chandeliers:
4 meter high Christmas pyramids on the squares, in the windows one can
see wooden figures such as mine workers, wooden angles and the so
called ‘Schwibbogen’, a half round chandelier, a form which
commemorates the half round entrance to the mine, with 7 lights,
representing the working days of the mine workers. |
